Saving the Town!
When my character opened his eyes for the first time, it was dark. A fire crackled behind a set of bars and I noticed a crouching figure hiding beside me. The fire cast some distinct lighting over the whole scene, illuminating my apparent jailers and silhouetting the bars I was standing behind. *blinks*

I’m in jail!.

Thankfully that moment didn’t last very long. The crouching man beside me informed my character that his name was Amdir, he’s a Ranger, and he’s here to free me from captivity. Apparently myself and two hobbits have been imprisoned and its up to me and Amdir to free them. Once the information has been passed to you, Amdir clubs the individual guarding you and releases you from your prison.

I moved out of my jail cell and into the small instanced scenario – the game begins in an instance, just so you can have a bit of privacy in your tutorial experience – I noticed that everything in the world, despite having a realistic flavor, looked as I would have expected it to in a Lord of the Rings setting. The darkness is quite dark, my avatar moves with a fluid gate, and the buildings all have a rustic, natural feel to them.

From here, the tutorial really begins. It takes you through a combat experience and lets you know – in a subtle way – just how to use your abilities, how to pick up coin, open doors, talk to people, and all the sort of things new MMO players wouldn’t necessarily know. I was quite impressed with the narrative style of the tutorial and the relatively quick pacing that the tutorial employs. It teaches you how to do something as you’re doing it, so nothing is lost in translation and the lesson is quickly enforced by an action.

Now that I was free of my prison, I went about finding those two hobbits. This was actually fairly easy, as the tutorial plays out in a very linear fashion and doesn’t leave too much room for error. In all respects, it seems almost impossible for your character to die at this stage, which is a blessing. Nothing turns off a new MMO gamer than experiencing death at the first turn.

You’ll be seeing more of him before your time in Middle Earth is done.

As you meet up with each of the hobbits in turn, I found myself smiling as I talked with them. Turbine did an impressive job getting the same sort of dialect from the Lord of the Rings books to show through in the conversations you have with NPCs in their game. The hobbits were ornery and cute, all at the same time…exactly how I believed them to be portrayed. As a human, I towered over the Halflings, and I knew that is was my duty to protect them.

While we were escaping, the hobbits decided that we needed a distraction to escape. cheap wow gold The female hobbit tossed a torch onto one of the surrounding buildings and, in seconds, the entire place was ablaze!

I really enjoyed this section of the tutorial instance because – in areas – it was actually possible for a player to burn their own character. I did; merely for curiosity’s safe. As the buildings were burning I made my escape with the hobbits. mp3 players However, before we could make it out my screen shuddered and a horrible shriek sounded over my speakers. I turned and their – standing behind an iron portcullis was a Ringwraith. My screen morphed again – echoing my own fear – and the Nazgul demanded that I “hand over the Halflings. world of warcraft gold ” Luckily, Amdir showed up on the scene, or I might have done it.

When Amdir confronts the Nazgul, you have no choice but to stand and watch as the ranger gets stabbed. Just as Amdir goes down, the Ringwraith decides that the heat and light from the spreading fires are just too much for him, and he turns tail and runs. wow gold After checking my shorts, I ended the tutorial instance. In my opinion, this small scenario provided me with one of the more inclusive initial gaming experiences I’ve ever encountered. I found myself reading through every dialogue box, because there was no rush to move forward. wow gold This was my own instance and I could take my time. I learned how to use my abilities, and – in the end – was able to save the lives of two grateful hobbits.

It was a good start to my journey, but I’d have a long ways to go before my quest in Middle Earth would come to an end. wow gold kaufen

”If there’s one fantasy world almost guaranteed to push every gamer’s inner beardy button it’s JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Vanguard WarriorsMost avid PC gamers will have read the epic trilogy of books (at least several times) and with Peter Jackson’s CGI-driven triumvirate becoming the Noughties’ Star Wars.

Power
Power is used during special combat moves. Will increases OOC power regeneration and maximum power. Fate increases the amount of power generated while in combat.

”By now, many of you have probably seen the screenshots, read the previews, and checked out the databases concerning Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. world of warcraft gold These compliations are slowly building up throughout the internet and at our very own LotRO community site, and even include some efforts by creative folks posting recruiting videos on YouTube. Now it’s Ten Ton Hammer’s turn to doll out a preview. Other sites have given you a taste of what you’ll experience in the blunt-force trauma sort of way that generalized previews often use, but you already know the basics, so I’m not going to repeat those to you. wow gold At Ten Ton Hammer, we’re going to be trying something different, and I hope you enjoy it.

For this hands-on preview of LotRO, I’ve decided to jump into more of a storyteller role and give you my very first impressions as I take my initial few steps in Middle Earth. If you’re looking for details on monster-play or the founder’s system, look elsewhere. wow gold Here you’ll find the gut feelings of a Middle Earth fan and learn just how the world looks through my eyes in the crucial first moments of my testing experience.

Welcome to Middle Earth
From the moment I started the my LotRO client, I knew this wasn’t a normal MMO that I was playing. The first image you get on your screen – aside from the Turbine logo animation – is of the One Ring falling slowly through the air, fire reflecting off its golden surface. wow gold kaufen Gandalf the Gray, his pointy hat and long flowing beard easily recognizable, appears after the ring reaches its downward descent and narrates the introductory movie that gives the player a concrete setting for the period of time that I am going to be adventuring in.

Warrior 11-20 Progression Guide

september 26th, 2008

The first ten levels as a Warrior were basic introductions to your skill set and stances. Levels 11-20 help you work out the dynamics of grouping and introduces some of the more powerful skill lines a Warrior has at his disposal. Oh and that rescue you learned at level 10 (Protect I). You’ll get more opportunities to play with that as you group on your way to level 20.

I. Level 11
By now, you have had some time to experiment with the skills you learned at level 10. If you hop into any group roles that place you as the tank, remember to use Taunting Strike I so that you can get more aggro. And rely on Protect I to help peel mobs that start looking cross-eyed at any squishy companions.

This is definitely the time to start looking at making the trip to other continents and hitting way points for fast travel to groups later. Along the way, you’ll bump into some mobs to kill and the occasional group. Just a few of the group quests around this level (think bee hive in Qalia or floating island on Kojan) will get you to level 12 in no time.

II. Levels 12-13
Now you get new skills, with Shield of Maiming I being the only new spell line. Shield of Maiming requires you be in the Defensive stance. It deals decent damage and reduces the damage output of the target for 24 seconds. This skill makes Defensive stance a little more palatable when in a group with plenty of damage. Considering that you lose many of your damage-dealing skills when in Defensive stance, having a new one that both deals decent damage and lowers the damage you take is a nice benefit for hitting level 12.

III. Levels 14-15
Four of the five skills learned at this level are the first in a new line of skills for you, so this is a very defining level. First off is Infuriating Shot I, which deals so-so damage but adds hate. It can be used in either stance, so it is a nice option for building hate while in Offensive stance in a group missing other damage dealers. Shield Bash I also provides some low damage while adding hate and can be used in either stance. Keep in mind that it requires you to have a shield equipped.

Another incentive to use Defensive stance, Stinging Cut I does 150% melee damage, adds a little hate on impact, and adds a large chunk of hate over time. Meanwhile, Withdraw I wipes a lot of the hate generated for all combatants against the target and causes subsequent attacks to generate much less hate. When used in Defensive stance, this can give a Warrior one more tool to wipe aggro from a healer while building up more of his own.

IV. Levels 16-17
The skills learned at level 16 are all part of existing lines, so you’ll be more powerful but your style of play will not change much. What will change is the nature of some of your quests. You should find yourself facing more 4-dot and stronger mobs now. This will make grouping almost necessary and give you a chance to practice your role as a tank.

Again, consider switching to Defensive stance when your group has plenty of damage dealers. If you are in a duo or trio, or your group is made up of mostly healers and tanks, choose Offensive stance to help kill faster.

V. mp3 players Levels 18-19
Level 18 is huge for learning skills, and 6 out of 10 of them start new lines! This level will certainly change the way you play your Warrior. Grim Determination I allows you to gain back some energy by attacking a mob. This will be handy when grouping and taunting has you low on energy. world of warcraft gold

Myrmidon’s Gift causes your next 3 attacks to be criticals, perfect for trying to fire off a finisher in Offensive stance. Along the same lines, Obliterate I lets you follow Decimate with another nice damage skill when in Offensive stance.

Raise Defenses I help you bail out a teammate if you cannot peel a mob by causing them to receive 25% less damage for the next 8 seconds. wow This will give you time to fire off a couple of taunts and a Taunting Strike at the very least. Another skill to bail out comrades is Shout of Defiance I, which adds hate and forces the mob to target you. Beware: the mob will do 25% more damage for the next 15 seconds, so if you lose aggro after the 3 attacks forced on you it could cost the life of a party member. wow gold

Finally, Smash I requires a shield, does heavy damage, and adds 2 seconds of stun. Using it sets your stance to Defensive. This is one more skill that you can use while grouping to contribute damage while in Defensive form, and the stun is a nice bonus for disrupting casters. wow gold

VI. Level 20
You’ve reached level 20! This skills this time are upgrades of previous lines, so you have more time to adjust to the boatload you learned at level 18. Group as much as possible and try different combos to see how well you can protect your group while maximizing damage. wow gold kaufen

By now, you should be able to travel to a couple of the hubs for activity on each continent. It’s usually pretty easy to get groups for the Strand of the Ancients and Kalendra’s Coven in Qalia if all else fails.

VII. Soloing
Against Single Mobs
Stick to Offensive form and try to pick on white and yellow 2-dot mobs or blue to white 3-dot mobs.

Warrior Creation Guide

september 26th, 2008

The Warrior’s primary role is to protect her allies. She draws the animosity of her enemies and mitigates incoming damage with her defensive skills. The Warrior’s secondary role is to deal significant damage while influencing the flow of battle with her Commands and Shouts. Of the three protective fighter classes, Warriors have the potential to deal the most damage and have the widest range of options for managing enemy aggression (aggro). A Warrior will need to properly use her stances, special attacks and tactical maneuvers to fulfill her various group roles.

Dexterity and constitution are the Warrior’s primary attributes. Dexterity helps the Warrior trigger his powerful Finishing Attacks and evade incoming damage. Constitution gives him more hit points and higher resistances. While arguably not as important as the prior two attributes, Strength and Intelligence also benefit the Warrior. Strength enables the Warrior to do enough damage to keep the attention of enemies, while Intelligence increases the magnitude of his Taunts and improves his combat perception.

Building a good Warrior takes some careful planning at the character creation screen and requires you to learn a handful of tactics in the lower levels.
Selecting the Right Race

Warriors of all races start with the same attributes, but the choice of race can affect how many points the Warrior automatically gets placed into its prime attributes.

Each character gets 20 attribute points (AP) per level, starting at level ten. Six of your AP are placed for you automatically upon gaining the level, one per attribute. An additional four points are assigned to attributes based on your race if you are not one of the human races. These preferred stats are intended to reflect the traits of your race. You can place the remaining ten points (or 14 for humans) wherever you want to within their soft caps.

Human races have a soft cap of five points per attribute, while non-human races have a base soft cap of four points per attribute. The non-human races, however, gain higher soft caps on their preferred stats. Thus, a human can develop into a more balanced character, while a non-human has the potential to become more specialized.

The table below shows the attribute scores at level 50 before gear and buffs for the Warrior based on selected race. We’ve highlighted the best results for each of the primary attributes for you. A Warrior will receive enough AP to reach the soft caps for any two attributes of your choice.

Racial Abilities

The other important factor to consider when picking the race for your Warrior is racial abilities. mp3 players With their short durations and long recasts, racial abilities are less important than attributes in the selection process, but they can be used to pick between races that are otherwise equal. The racial abilities are listed below.

Thestran: Inspirational Commands
You will have 3 inspirational commands at your disposal: Inspirational Presence, Inspirational Wisdom, and Inspirational Tactics. world of warcraft gold Each command is a group buff that will add either 2% to mitigation, a 3% reduction to mana cost of all spells, or a 2% increase in damage. Shroud of the Vael: This ability will remove 99% of aggro from a single target but keep the halfling in combat. Additionally, for 30 seconds afterwards, any spell cast or attack made will have its aggro reduced to 1% of normal as well. wow power leveling Recast is 15 minutes.

The Warrior

september 26th, 2008

The warrior, a mighty defensive fighter, uses strength, skill, and tactical mastery to eliminate enemies.

Overview
While many may wonder why one would wish to be a Warrior, with options like the Dread Knight and Paladin available, who have the martial capabilities along with the aid of magical abilities. Simply put, that’s because the Warrior has no need for simple tricks and nonsense like magic. The Warrior is a protective fighter who uses his great skill of combat, his vigor for fighting, and his exceptional tactics in battle to overcome his foes without the aid of magic.

The Warrior is a powerful protective fighter who can keep the enemies at bay for his group mates while empowering himself and his group with his battle cries–or using those cries of war to stun, damage, or otherwise weaken those who would stand against him and his party. The Warrior also has an impressive array of melee damaging abilities for a protective fighter. While he won’t damage like an offensive fighter, a warriors blade is still one to be feared. Warriors Split with Vanguard

september 26th, 2008

In the final baseball games played at Russ Carr Field before major renovation begins this fall, Westmont (9-33, 8-30) split a doubleheader with Vanguard (17-30, 8-27), taking the second game 4-1 after falling in the first 7-5. Senior pitcher Brandon Downs earned the win for Westmont in game two, pitching six innings in the seven inning game and giving up just one run on seven hits. Downs struck out three and walked two. Senior John Evans earned a save by pitching the seventh inning. He allowed just one hit and struck out one.

“It wanted to come out on senior day and do the best I could. It’s the last time I get to play and I wanted to give everything I had,” said Downs. “I was trying to make sure I didn’t get behind hitters and end up walking people. I was trying to get ahead and get them to ground out for me. ”

“It means a lot to get this win on senior day on the last game at Russ Carr Field,” said Evans. “I’m glad to be a part of it. It felt good to be out here on senior day and have my parents here. ”

The pitcher’s dual between Downs and Lion’s pitcher Bryce Reid produced a scoreless tie for the first four innings in the second game. But a lead-off single by Vanguard shortstop Kyle Bondurant led to a sacrifice fly by first baseman Zachary Falk, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the fifth, Westmont senior shortstop Anthony Martinez led off and was walked by Reid. Freshman catcher Kyle Noe laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Martinez to second with one away. One out later, sophomore right fielder Charles Whitman drove a monster home run deep over the left field scoreboard to give the Warriors a 2-1 advantage. The bomb was Whitman’s first collegiate home run.

Whitman, a resident of Baltimore, may have had some extra motivation. His father Lawrence Whitman had made the trip from Maryland and was in attendance at the game, watching his son play for the first time in a Warrior uniform.

“It was awesome to have my dad here,” said Whitman. “He is my hero and it meant the world to me. ”

“I was so excited. I don’t think I’ve jumped that high in a long time,” said Downs of his reaction to Whitman’s home run. “The whole dug out jumped up at once. It was awesome. ”

Following Whitman’s home run, Taylor Maddox was walked by Reid, prompting Lions’ head coach Scott Mallernee to make a pitching change and bring in Matthew Curtis. Curtis struggled on the mound, first throwing the ball in the dirt on a pick-off attempt which moved Maddox to second and then tossing a wild pitch to allow Maddox to move to third. Freshman third baseman Jordan Bottenfield capitalized on the mistakes by scoring Maddox on a single through the left side. Warrior first baseman Colten Christianson followed with a single to center, moving Bottenfield to second base. Two wild pitches later, Bottenfield had crossed the plate for the Warriors’ fourth run.

In the first game, Westmont fell behind early, giving up six runs, two of them unearned, in the first three innings. Despite out hitting the Lions 12 to 10, Westmont fell short in a comeback attempt. The Warriors picked up two runs in the fifth inning when Bottenfield led off with a single and Christianson followed with a double to right center giving the Warriors runners at second and third with nobody out. buy wow gold One out later, freshman right fielder Terrell Wong doubled down the left field line to drive in both runners.

The Warriors added another run in the seventh on an RBI single by senior Jonathan White that scored Christianson who had walked to lead off the inning.

In the eighth inning, Westmont pushed two runs across the plate and threatened to score more. cheap wow gold Maddox started the inning with a single to center and then stole second base. A single by Bottenfield moved Maddox to third, giving the Warriors runners at the corners. Christianson stepped to the plate and sent a ground ball screaming to the left of the second baseman. mp3 An outstanding play by the Lion’s Andrew Ramirez retired Christianson at first but allowed Maddox to score and Bottenfield to take second.

Senior designated hitter Cody Chapman reached on an error by the shortstop before Wong hit into a fielder’s choice which retired Bottenfield. Junior second baseman Mark Boujikian stepped to the plate next and singled down the left field line to score Chapman. wow gold But with the score now 6-5, the Warriors would leave two men stranded.

Senior Eric Gaustad was assigned the loss after pitching eight and one-third innings. Gaustad allowed seven runs, four earned on nine hits. wow gold He fanned eight Lions in his final home appearance while walking just two. Vanguard’s Christopher Carls was the winning pitcher. Carls gave up two runs on six hits in six innings. wow gold Dustin Jones received the save for the Lions.

Between games, Westmont honored seven graduating seniors. Downs, Gaustad, Martinez, Chapman, White, Evans and Philip Valle were introduced at home plate and recognized for their important contributions to the Warrior program.
